Are We Hurting Our Own Cause?

I'm talking about legalization.

My husband and I were discussing it earlier today, and he said something about how great it would be if Texas changed their laws just like 14 other U.S. States already have. While that would be awesome, the goal in my mind is for the medicinal and recreational use of marijuana to be legal in all of the United States.

He worries that if it is legalized across the U.S., that corporations will take over. Pharmaceutical companies could put their TONS of money into research and development, create new medications yielding some of the most beneficial effects of marijuana, and make it really expensive for medical consumers. I'm not going to say it isn't a possibility - it is, especially if it's only legal for medicinal use. Alternately, cigarette companies could manufacture marijuana cigarettes and make a killing. After all, how easy would it be to buy a pack of pre-rolled joints?

Even if pharmaceutical companies developed some magic pill, I could still grow in my own house - right? And if cigarette companies made pre-rolled joints, I think I would still prefer to hit a bong. I think many other smokers would want the same. But that's just my hope, I guess.

The reason that all of this concerns him is that if it's legalized in Texas, we are planning to open a dispensary. That, of course, means we'd be making some money... So his fear of big corporations taking over is his reason for wanting legalization to be limited... because if they take over, we won't make the money we would probably make if they don't want anything to do with it.

I was shocked to find that he held these views, and it opened my eyes to the fact that there are likely tons of people who use, produce and sell marijuana and related products that are against legalization. Breeders, growers, dealers, grow shop owners, head shop owners, all kinds of people stand to lose a lot of money if corporations want to delve into this. So now, I wonder if we're hurting our own cause for fear of losing out on monetary gain.

But what about this: we live in America, land of the free. This is a totally non-harmful, even helpful substance, and if we get caught with it - our lives can quickly be ruined. There is no relevant reason for marijuana to be illegal, and yet it is. If it were legal, our country would be in a much better situation right now. I would be in a much better situation right now.

I think we're making great progress, though. Hopefully I'm right!

My 4/20 Sucked :(

In the very beginning hours of 4/20 my husband and I were waiting at the 24 hour animal hospital - our chihuahua was sick and we were concerned that she might be dying... The vet said she probably had parvo... We did everything the vet told us to do, but she died just before midnight.

Other things added to the terribleness of this day, but Coco dying was definitely the worst. :'(

Google Image "Hairy Bud"

So, for obvious reasons, I was searching for pictures of "hairy bud." Not satisfied with the first few pages, I continued - until I found this:
And I figured that if I had to see that, so should you!

Good Things Happening

I haven't posted anything in the last few days. That's because we're out of smoke. Need to buy some more, but with Easter weekend and all it's been hard to get a hold of the person that usually hooks me up.

A magical thing just happened, though. Yes, a magical thing indeed. Ms. Blaze just found some shake... Aw, yeah!!

Damn having to share.

4/20

4/20 is coming up pretty soon. Have you made plans? I'll just be smoking... I'd love to go out and do something fun and weed-related, but there's nothing going on anywhere near where I live.

I do, however, have plans for other days... If you live in or near Austin, TX you can join me and thousands of others at Eeyore's Birthday Party on April 24th, admission is FREE and I hear that recreational drug use such as marijuana, shrooms and acid are common there. Oh, and there's a costume contest!!

I'm also planning to go to the Cannabis Crusade, which will also be in Austin on May 1st. Instead of telling you about it, here's the promotional poster:

Off Grid Dreams

*Not high*

My husband and I are talking/thinking/dreaming of moving off grid. If you've seen Off the Grid; Life on the Mesa you probably think we're hippies or that we're afraid of or against the government, but you would be wrong. (I mean, if we're hippies - at least we're modern hippies!)

We just love the idea of building and living in a self sustaining home. Someone pointed out that we, as a society, work harder and have less than we ever have before. I couldn't agree more. We pay $850 each month to live in a 3/2 tudor in an okay neighborhood. We've barely used the heater or AC for the last few months and haven't had an electric bill less than $400. Water isn't too bad, I can't complain. But we can't even afford to fully furnish the house, because our income is already spoken for. Bills are killing us!

So now we're seriously wanting to go off the grid. The cabin on the right was built by LaMar Alexander. It is 14x14 with a loft upstairs and it cost him less than $2000 to build. I for one, am impressed! I want more space and more comfort, but this is inspiring. I think we can buy some land and build a bigger nicer version of this cabin for around $10,000. And the best part is that once we're in a self-sustaining house our money is our money.

I cannot wait for that freedom...

Super Duper High

So my husband and I were cooking and smoking (oh, don't worry, he's a professional!) and I was about to put the bubbler and the lighter in the fridge.

Yeah.........

Family and Marijuana

*I am not high right now*

So, I recently came out of the stoner closet. Well, I guess a lot of people already knew, my sisters and my close friends have known since the beginning (almost two years ago). I came out to my dad though. He actually didn't seem to be bothered by it, he agrees that it's not dangerous and that its much safer than things like alcohol and tobacco. After telling him, I felt really good. Weight off my shoulders...

He told my mom, which I don't mind at all because I was honestly a bit scared to talk to her about it. So, now she knows - and I don't really know how she feels about it. My dad acted like she didn't say much, but I feel like she's mad at me. She doesn't seem as interested in talking to me as she usually does, phone conversations are short and right to the point. I know it shouldn't really matter that much, after all - I'm 24 years old, married, and I live half an hour away from her... But she's my mom. No matter what, I hate disappointing her. It feels like I'm 15 again, and not in a good way.

Did you come out of the stoner closet? If so, what happened?

Peanut Butter and Jelly Twinkies

I wish Hostess would make Twinkies filled with peanut butter and jelly instead of that nasty creme filling. They'd be sooo amazing. sigh

My Plea to MTV

MTV - Please produce next year's Superbowl Halftime Show. I've recently come to realize that for the last 6 years Don Mischer Productions and/or White Cherry Entertainment have been responsible... and they aren't doing so well. As entertaining as Bruce Springsteen's Superbowl Slide was, I don't think I can handle much more of these old men trying to relive their glory days.

Did the Who help you stay hyped for the game? Not me, it made me want to play Rock Band...

On a happier note - wasn't the t-pain/bud light commercial gold? I loved it...
